Jewish Labor Committee
The Jewish Labor Committee (JLC) is the voice of the Jewish community in the labor movement and the voice of the labor movement in the Jewish
community. The JLC mobilizes these communities in common coalitions to promote respect for diversity in the emerging multiethnic workplace and society; to combat anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry; to support the strengthening of Jewish identity and security in the United States, Israel, and other communities around the world; to advance worker rights in the United States and abroad.
The Jewish Labor Committee is a cosponsor of the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Teachers Program developed by Vladka Meed. Since 1984, this experiential program has provided secondary school teachers with the resources to skillfully implement Holocaust studies in their classrooms. The group visits Washington, DC, Israel, Germany and Poland to see historic sites and hear from survivors and prominent scholars. Every other year, alumni are invited to an Educators' Conference in Washington, DC.
The Philadelphia Jewish Labor Committee (PJLC) coordinates a Holocaust education workshop at the annual Philadelphia Federation of Teachers Educational Conference. To present the workshop, PJLC has worked with almuni from the Holocaust and Jewish Resistance Program, the Pennsylvania Holocaust Education Council, Gratz and the ADL.
Partners in our work for social justice have included JCRC, Labor Israel Bonds, the Philadelphia Council of the AFL-CIO, Sierra Club, Black Clergy of Greater Philadelphia, and Jewish Social Policy Action Network, as well as others.
